Natural leaders is an Eco Leadership Program for youth ages 16 and up. We challenge youth to experience two weeks of outdoor adventure and sustainable living in the Blue Mountains region. Program Duration: July17th-31st 2011.
Registration Fee $1,600. (Includes all meals, lodging, activities, and equipment rentals).

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE. Experience 14 action packed days of of hiking, river kayaking, rock climbing, and a high ropes course. Get ready to for an overnight canoe trip and camping solo. All activities lead by an experienced guide.
GROUP LIVING. Live on an eco friendly farm with 10 roommates! Together you will tackle daily team building challenges and build a strong bond. Separate dorms provided for males and females.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS. Take part in “hands on” environmental stewardship projects such as river clean-ups, community gardening, and tree planting. Be prepared to get dirty!
SUSTAINABLE LIVING. Experience what it is like to live “close to the land”, collect farm fresh eggs, harvest rain water and use sustainable tranportation. Learn to prepare meals from locally grown foods, bake your own bread and taste the difference!
CERTIFICATION. Upon completion of the program, you will receive a letter of attestation highlighting volunteer hours, program competencies and individual achievements. We also provide referrals for green summer jobs and overseas programs.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR’S BIO

Amy “Chai” Gilbert has an educational background in Community Development and Therapeutic recreation. Over the last 8 years she has coordinated nation-wide youth exchange programs and facilitated leadership training workshops and retreats. Working with Free Spirit Tours, Chai has developed the Natural Leaders program to meet the needs of today’s youth. Chai brings extensive outdoor recreation, camp experience and strong leadership skills to the program. She is dedicated to helping youth lead the way towards a more sustainable future by providing relevant and meaningful life experience. In her spare time she can be found teaching yoga, running with her dog, and volunteering for local grassroots organizations.

Location details:
The Natural Leaders program will be hosted at Kimbercote Farm. This location is an ideal home-base for outdoor adventure and experiential learning. The property is surrounded by a network of hiking trails on the Niagara Escarpment, and access to the Beaver River is within 10 minutes walking distance. There are rolling hills, open fields and treed forest groves for outdoor initiative games, personal reflection, and natural species education. Kimbercote Farm also features several environmental technologies such as solar panels, demonstration straw-bale construction and a rainwater collection system. Kimbercote is located 30-minutes from Collingwood, and only 2 hours from Toronto.
